Meatless Monday: Vegan scooters across Canada to raise awareness

Activist Rich Adams is scootering across Canada to draw attention to animal rights and has made his way to the west coast.

Adams, who is known as Rich The Vegan, started last spring on the other side of the country. Adams began in Halifax in April and his journey ended in Vancouver on July 26.

I am a compassionate vegan man who is fighting for total animal liberation. Several years ago whilst in Asia, I became aware of the brutal Dog Meat Trade.

Adams said when he saw the eyes of innocent dogs in cages, he made the connection that all animals values their lives and deserve to live free from harm.

I would always choose compassion and fight for the innocents of this world.

The modified scooter is decorated with the Canadian flag and Adams has been travelling on highways and roads across the country to raise awareness.

The dog that prompted Adams to make the journey was a girl name Kathy, who was holding on to life in a cage with no shade, no shelter from the elements, and no love. Adams first encountered the dog in South Korea saw her and at the time I couldn’t take her with me, but along with many other dogs, I made a promise to return and rescue her.

What really broke my heart was that her eyes were bleeding and in the car journey to freedom it looked like she was crying tears of blood. She received veterinary care and safety at a Korean dog shelter. Several months later Kathy arrived in Canada. She started to feel the love and protection all animals deserve. Sadly, her health deteriorated and she was in constant pain. She spent her last hours laying in my bed, she watched the sun set over the Rocky Mountains, and she passed away in my arms – finally knowing that she was loved.
