Singer Katy Perry is being slammed for an ad in Australia for a department store in which she urges her dog Nugget to go chase koala bears.
The ad for retail giant Myer features a contest to give away 8,000 tickets to Perry’s concert Witness: The Tour.
The Roar singer is perched on top of block letters that read MYER and begins with Nugget pulling her sled of giant letters.
The commercial ends with the line that has upset animal advocates. “Let’s go chase some koalas, Nugget!” Perry says.
The line has since been cut so it ends with the second last line from the original ad which says it was time for Nugget to get his puppy passport.
Koala organizations and animal rights groups have slammed Perry and Myer for urging koala chasing.
The Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie in NSW says dogs are one of the biggest predators of koala bears.
