UPDATE: April 15

April has her baby! See it all here.

After days of anticipation and millions of people tuning in, the birth of April the giraffe’s calf seems imminent.

Here are the latest Facebook posts from Animal Adventure Park:

4/9 Evening Update
Our big girl seems to be moving around quite a bit! That is a good thing! Moms will get very “Pacey” before and during birth….we will see if it is any indication as to what is to come. All else is well.
April enjoyed yard time today! We have opened her door for weeks and she has only stood in the doorway; but today! – of all days! – she ventured out! Tonight’s photo is of that time outside and tomorrow we will send more exclusive content to our text subscribers – of today and tomorrows escapades!
If you haven’t subscribed yet we encourage it! it is a Labor alert and Baby Update opportunity! www.aprilthegiraffealert.com
The week promises warmer temperatures and a full moon is upon us! I hope that will shake things up!

4/1 Morning Update
please share this post to shutdown fake youtube channels and redirect to the official page.
This is not a hoax!
The fact the cam went down this morning didn’t help our cause by any means; but we are back up! We have received some lovely snow overnight and this morning, which may have contribute dto our signal issues.

Keepers and Vet have been on site – report is that April continues to be out of normal behavior and show signs of contractions. We are not announcing active labor at this time – as we will wait until there is NO QUESTION – to ensure our followers know to hunker down and wait!

3/30 Evening Update
It was clear to all watching, the evening keeper check was cut short by April. Her behavior is very off from normal demeanor; this is to be expected. Mammary development photos were not captured, but udders reported as full. It should not be much longer!
We hope to have an official text alert system available for subscription tomorrow. Subscribing will get you a Labor Alert text, but also exclusive texts, info, photo links, and calf updates over the coming months. Much of the content will be exclusive to the text alert community. A portion of the fee will get kicked back to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation for wild conservation of giraffes.
When that is available – we will post on all social media platforms and our websites.
Tune in tomorrow morning to Good Morning America for a live segment from the Giraffe Barn. GMA crews and Toys R Us will be on site for the LAST media interview before we have a calf (if one is not born this evening)!

3/26 Evening Update.
Keeper report is increased calf activity in comparison to this morning and last evening.
All other development is as previously reported. Appetite is strong and demeanor is good.

3/19 Morning Update
Keepers have noted a calming down of the calf and April carrying everything a bit towards the rear. This is exactly what we want! Wax caps are still in place. Appetite remains strong.

3/16. EVENING UPDATE
Keeper report is increased swelling in the backend and significant baby kicks from within. Vet reports all is well and no reason for concern. April is posturing quite a bit which is keeping us on our toes! We will see what the weekend brings.

3/9 Morning Update
April kept my eyes on the screen most the night and this morning; but we start the day without a new calf on the ground. All in due time and without a rush. She continues to be in great physical and mental condition.
Strong winds and dropping temperatures may keep our giraffes inside today and the next stretch of days. Seems winter is refusing to let go of Upstate NY. Once conditions are safe again, the giraffes will have yard access. During indoor stints you may observe extra keeper bonding time, enrichment, and training sessions.
A wee little hedgehog baby – or “hoglet” – was welcomed by a new mom yesterday in our education department animal line-up. Pictures to follow once safe for new mom and baby.
A quick congrats on the giraffe mask wearing mom; and her new son! April doesn’t appreciate the extra pressure, but she will get over it! Congrats to you Erin and your family!

2/27 Morning Update:

Keeper’s report is all is well in the barn. April is eating breakfast this morning and body condition remains as day prior. Continued movement of baby inside, and big baby kicks, are noticeably obvious. Through the evening April had to find her right positioning to feel comfortable to lay down, which is evidence of continued growth and position change of the calf. Do not be concerned, it is natural and worked out by mom on her own.

Today will yield warmer temperatures from yesterday’s flash freeze, allowing a little bit of yard time for mom, and of course time for Oliver.

Still no baby, we have not announced active labor, mom and baby are happy and healthy.

Today’s picture is of Oliver and April’s first time meeting one another. At the time, Oliver, a young 3 year bull coming of age, and April a very not pregnant 13 year old giraffe. Here we are almost 1 1/2 years later, waiting for their family to grow by one.
The park thought it had only one cougar (LuLu), until April arrived!

Continue to be vigilant and report fake youtube channels, that have stolen our feeds and also the donations of people.

Tonight, again, we will host a Keeper & Park Management LIVE chat on our youtube Page from 8 pm – 9 pm EST – though it may be extended longer with participation. It is a very quick and crazy environment but also a platform to show your support and also ask questions.

Have a great day, keep watching, and I will see you all in the chat!

– Please note – we have a full day of work ahead and will not be able to answers questions in this post’s comment thread.

I can’t seem to find a live feed anymore . I’m worrying if everything is ok ? Can you please update me ? Or tell me where else I can go to watch ? PLEASE ….❤ Ty .

  5. So Tuesday we are expecting a blizzard with an incredible amount of snow. We are ready. I have extra batteries. I will have extra bottled water, food for the grill and just sandwich making. Have extra blankets if electricity goes out and it gets cold, because that is the other forecast, extreme cold. My problem is if I have no electricity then I have no Internet to watch April have her baby. After two weeks of watching and waiting I sure hope I don’t miss it. Stay safe everyone. Stay warm.

  6. I appreciate the kindness of April’s keepers and the zoo for sharing this live event with all of us. Just shows how much all y’all love your animal friends.
It is so tacky of the so called “Animal Rights Group” to dictate what we can view. Hopefully, we will get to watch and share the birth of this little one.
