VIDEO: Heroic police dog Finn, who took a stab wound for his handler, makes Simon Cowell cry

Police dog Finn who made judges on Britain’s Got Talent Cry with tales of his heroics has had his story shared with millions of people after his heroic acts went viral following an appearance on the show.

Finn, a German Shepherd, appeared on stage with his handler and best friend PC Dave Wardell.

Wardell shared the story of how during a police chase, he was about to be stabbed by an assailant when Finn jumped in between. Finn sustained a 10-inch gash and was not expected to survive.

SImon Cowell said “it breaks my heart” as he heard the story.

Finn was slashed with serious stab wounds to the chest and head but did not let go until reinforcements arrived.

The duo appeared on the talent show to perform an act in which Finn relays words chosen by the judges to his handler.

During the performance, a video about Finn’s story is shown, including pictures of the injuries he suffered and his recovery from surgery.

Pc Wardell also told the judges about the progress of Finn’s Law, an amendment to the Animal Welfare Act 2006 which aims to protect service dogs and horses.

The bill removes a section of the current law of self-defence often used by those who harm a service animal while committing a crime.

After the audition, Cowell told the audience:

A dog will literally give up his life for you and for anyone who has been cruel to an animals or a dog, just remember if you had treated him well he would have put his life up ahead of you.”

Wardell said he wanted to draw attention to the incredible work that dogs like Finn do every day and night.

If I can tell Finn’s story, showcase service animals and talk about Finn’s law, I’ve already won.
