Today is Cat Day. (Seriously, it’s a thing.)

In the ongoing war between cat versus dog, one Alberta city has picked a side – at least for a day. Edmonton has proclaimed today – June 7 – Cat Day.

WHEREAS cats are “a-meow-zing” animals and a popular family pet;
AND WHEREAS, the Edmonton International Cat Festival is the “purr-fect” opportunity to celebrate cats and cat culture;
AND WHEREAS, this Festival offers “paw-some” presentations and educational “litter-a-ture” about our feline friends;
AND WHEREAS, funds raised from the Festival will support the Edmonton Humane Society;
THEREFORE, I, MAYOR DON IVESON, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM JUNE 7, 2014 “CAT DAY” IN EDMONTON, ALBERTA’S CAPITAL CITY.
Dated this 7th day of June, 2014
Don Iveson
Mayor of the City of Edmonton

Or, as the Edmonton International Cat Festival was quick to pounce calling it “Caturday,” adding: “This may be the most a-meow-zing day ever proclaimed!”
