Sarah Palin’s son uses dog as a step stool; cue the vitriol

Sarah Palin may have once again put her foot in her mouth. The former U.S. vice-presidential candidate greeted the New Year by posting to Facebook some photos of her son, Trig, as he used the family dog as a step stool.

The greeting was meant to be inspirational about overcoming obstacles, but instead it sparked outrage.

Happy New Year!
May 2015 see every stumbling block turned into a stepping stone on the path forward. Trig just reminded me. He, determined to help wash dishes with an oblivious mama not acknowledging his signs for “up!”, found me and a lazy dog blocking his way. He made his stepping stone.

The images and sentiments have been shared more than 10,000 times, attracted more than 65,000 “likes,” and generated more than 21,000 comments.

Sarah Pittaway among them.

“These pictures disgust me,” she wrote. “I have two rescue dogs and 2 children. If I caught either one of them treating either animal like this I would be mortified. No wonder dogs nip children. I have taught my children to respect animals. They would not stand on another child so why should an animal take it.”

Jermaine Rogers saw the encounter as a political statement: “That’s the right-wing conservative way….whatever is in your self-serving path, living or dead, is less important than what YOU want. Go on….STEP ON IT.”

Still, others jumped to Palin’s defence.

“Get a life people,” Dori Borras wrote. “There is nothing wrong here, only the ones who want to make something out of nothing. it is cute and no one was hurt including the dog.”
