Pigeon that can’t fly and puppy that can’t walk are BFFs

When a puppy can’t walk and a pigeon can’t fly, naturally they become the best of friends.

And world famous along the way.

The Mia Foundation in Rochester, New York posted the most wonderful images of the unlikely couple. Their story instantly went viral — and donations to the shelter, which specializes in animals with birth defects, have gone through the roof.

Lundy is an 8-week-old chihuahua that weighed just 5.6 ozs, when the shelter took the pup in last month. And Herman is a pigeon that was found sitting motionless in a parking lot, which foundation founder Sue Rogers took in a year ago.

“It’s pretty funny how a puppy that can’t walk and a pigeon that can’t fly, yet these two made it around the world over the last few days,” Rogers said in a Facebook video Tuesday.

Her post about interspecies friendship is touching hearts everywhere.

While other animal welfare facilities determined Herman had some kind of neurological condition that prevented him from flying, he should just be euthanized.

But Rogers didn’t have the heart.

“I’ve been called crazy for keeping Herman alive and trying to make his life a happy one. His life has meaning too,” she explained.

And then, Lundy arrived from a breeder with a defect that leaves him unable to walk properly.

Rogers put the special needs species together last week, and voila.

Their relationship is 100 per cent perfection.

Definitely call it puppy love.

“WOW! I never imagined the pictures of Lundy and Herman would touch so many people!” Rogers wrote. “Almost 5 million people in a little over 24 hours!! Their little story is being shared all over the world!”

And, more than $6,000 was donated in just two days to help cover bills and veterinary fees for the special needs animals The Mia Foundation cares for.

They really only have two words: Thank you.
