Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston mourn the loss of their dog, Dolly

Actor Justin Theroux turned to social media this week to mourn the death of his dog, Dolly.

The Leftovers star posted several pictures of his beloved Mexican-born White Shepherd on Instagram Monday night.

“Tonight, at sunset, after a heroic struggle… our most loyal family member and protector, Dolly A. laid down her sword and shield,” he wrote. “She was surrounded by her entire family.”

He also posted a few photos of Dolly, who his former partner Jennifer Aniston named after Dolly Parton, covered in flowers and laying on a blanket.

A woman’s hands can be seen in some photos photo, but it’s not clear if they belong to the former Friends star who split from Theroux last year. Though the Hollywood press is pretty sure it is Aniston, quoting sources close to the pair.

Theroux also quotes George Graham Vest in his tribute.

“The one that never deserts, the one that never proves ungrateful… is the dog— faithful and true, even in death.”

And a message for the pet owners:  #adoptdontshop #rescuedog

Rest in Peace Dolly, indeed.

A day later, this photo was posted on Instagram of Aniston with Dolly.

Theroux has a number of rescue pets.

Here are all of Theroux’s dogs together.

And the couple in happier times.
