In Non-Brexit News: An adorable puppy has taken up residence on Downing Street

Meet the top dog of 10 Downing Street.

No, not Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

It’s Dilyn — a dog rescued from a puppy mill and now calls one of the United Kingdon’s most famous residences home.

“Meet our gorgeous little rescue puppy, Dilyn,” Johnson’s partner, Carrie Symonds, tweeted Monday when the pooch was dropped off.

She also included a pretty important hashtag: “#AdoptDontShop”

Friends of Animals Wales dropped off the 15-week-old Jack Russell Terrier.

As Symonds explained, Dilyn was saved by the organization after a tip that he “he was to be dumped by a puppy dealer because he was born with a crooked jaw.”

The group swooped in, fixed his jaw, and, according to Symonds, saved his life.

“We knew that Carrie Symonds has always been a huge animal welfare advocate and we are absolutely
overjoyed that this gorgeous pup will be living his best life with Carrie and the Prime Minister at their
Downing Street home,” Friends of Animals Wales said in a statement.

The adoption at 10 Downing Street also highlighted a movement called Lucy’s Law.

The bill, which is designed to cull all third-party puppy dealers by banning sales of puppies through middlemen.

It comes into effect in England and Wales in the spring and forces buyers to deal with breeder directly. Other jurisdictions may follow suit.

The law, which is named after Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Lucy who died in 2016 after being badly treated on a puppy farm.

“We would like to thank Carrie and the Prime Minister for opening their hearts and their home to a puppy farm survivor and for inviting Friends of Animals Wales back to Downing Street once again,” FOA Wales added. “We wish them a lifetime of happiness with their new best friend.”

It’s unclear how Larry the cat, who is 10 Downing Street’s well-established mouser, will handle the new addition.
