Great horned owl saved from ashes of California wildfires

As devastating wildfires race across California, people and animals are being displaced, but we can share one bright spot out of so much tragedy.

The Ventura County Fire Department scooped up an injured Great Horned Owl from the ashes of the Maria Fire.

The bird in distress was spotted by crews on patrol Saturday.

The crew named the owl “Ram” after their own mascot and favourite NFL team.

The big bird was taken to Camarillo Wildlife Rehabilitation.

The owl was disoriented, suffering from smoke inhalation and was also infested with flies, according to the organization.

“Thanks to these courageous men, he will make a full recovery and be released back to his territory as soon as it’s safe to do so,” the wildlife group added.

And now there’s even better news.

“The owl is doing great,” said Camarillo’s Nicky Thole.

“I think the prognosis is excellent due to the efforts of the firefighters. I think they got him just in time, got him out of that area. And he will be able to be released,” she added.

It’s more proof: Big or small, firefighters love them all.

Bravo to firefighters who give a hoot.
