File Under Canada: Police stop traffic to help elk cross road

People in the Rocky Mountain town of Canmore, Alberta are used to seeing elk.

But perhaps not quite like this.

Filmmaker Andy Arts was driving along the TransCanada Highway earlier this week when he spotted some elk crossing the road. It was in fact a huge herd of elk trying to pass over the divided roadway and six lanes of traffic.

Cars stopped, including RCMP.

“Only in Canmore, AB do Elk get a police escort to cross the highway,” Arts posted on Facebook Thursday after the spellbinding encounter.

He even created a video and put it to music.

It’s pure magic.
