Disturbing find after decapitated kangaroo found in regional park

A kangaroo has been found decapitated by a local resident in a Perth suburban park in Australia.

Resident Daniel Lizzi found the decapitated animal at Yellagonga Regional Park in Woodvale and reported it to authorities. disturbing example of animal cruelty at a popular northern suburbs park.

Lizzi said the animal’s head was taken off in such a way that it couldn’t have been done by another animal.

“I don’t know of any sort of animal that could tear something off like that, that cleanly.”

He also could not see any other scratches or cuts. The head has not been found. The gory discovery has since been reported to the local humane society.

“It was pretty confronting but also upsetting, especially with the recent fires during which something like a billion animals were lost,” he said.

“It is tragic enough that sort of thing goes on and then this poor innocent kangaroo going about its business, in a park mind you where it should be safe and protected, is taken out like that.

“It is not OK. If it is some idiot out there doing it for fun, they should go find something better to do.”

Mr Lizzi’s post about the find on a local residents Facebook group page sparked furious condemnation for those responsible.

RSPCA WA has confirmed it is investigating the incident and has called for anyone in the area who may have seen any suspicious behaviour to call the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline on 1300 278 358.

They are also keen to view any CCTV footage from homes along Duffy Terrace.

“It is deeply disturbing to come across acts of cruelty like this. And even more so when it relates to our precious wildlife,” an RSPCA spokesman said.

Animal cruelty is a serious criminal offence, punishable by a fine of up to $50,000 or five years in jail.
