Barbra Streisand loved Samantha so much, she never wanted to let her go.
In a wide-ranging interview in Variety, the songstress revealed she actually cloned her beloved Samantha, a Coton du Tulear, to create Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett. Samantha died last year at the age of 14.
“They have different personalities,” the legendary actor and singer, told Variety. “I’m waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have her [Samantha’s] brown eyes and seriousness.”
She even had a caption suggestion for variety for a portrait taken at her Malibu estate with her trio of fur balls:
“Send in the Clones.”

PETA even weighed in.
We all want our beloved dogs to live forever, but cloning doesn’t achieve that-instead, it creates a new & different dog who has only the physical characteristics of the original.

The animal rights organization wasn’t too thrilled.
Because cloning has a high failure rate, many dogs are caged & tormented for every birth that actually occurs-so that’s not fair to them, despite the best intentions. We feel Barbra Streisand’s grief at losing her beloved dog but would also love to have talked her out of cloning.

Streisand tells Variety that that before Samantha died, she had cells taken from her mouth and stomach.
Those were used for the cloning.
